Lashkar-e-Taiba, a threat to India and US

Washington, June 3: The US government described LeT (lashkar-e-taiba) as a Pakistan-based terrorist outfit, which carried out the Mumbai attacks that poses extreme threat to India as well as US.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano on Thursday evening, June 2, described LeT as an al-Qaeda- like organisation. This terrorist organisation "could be construed as a threat to the United States , certainly to India. It is al-Qaeda-like in its strength and organisation," she said.

In her trip to India, she spoke about homeland security issues. Napolitano said that the US had in the past 10 years mainly focused on al-Qaeda, which was responsible for the 9/11 attacks.
