Wiki-like blow-up hits porn industry in US

London, Apr 1: There seem to be yet another whistle blower lurking around that is threatening to have long impacting results. The latest leaks have turned whistle blower to the flourishing porn industry in the US and has reveled the real identities of the porn stars for whom secrecy of personal information is key.

The website leaked information on sensitive details like real names, dates of birth, and official nicknames of the stars. The data was leaked from the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation [AIM]. The facility is also an STD-testing facility that is based in the San Fernando Valley, north of Los Angeles. The information leaked was of porn stars from both the past and present totaling to close to 15,000.

For a growing industry that pumps millions into the US economy, the industry has to follow certain guidelines so as to minimize the spread of HIV and other venereal diseases. All the adult movie stars were required to get a clearance from the clinic so that the producers and directors could cast them in their movies/shows.

With such sensitive information leaked, Mike South, a blogger who exclusively covers adult entertainment issues was quoted as saying to the Independent newspaper, “Your information is now in the hands of people who shouldn't have it." With media calling it the Porn Wikileaks, the information was first uploaded a few weeks ago and slowly began to spread across the Internet space.

Though the site does not give away other meaty information like private medical information or test results, the site divulges the identity including the name, address and other identification documents of all those registered with AIM. Some of the information also contains Google Maps photos of their homes.

The leaks potentially threatens to reveal the identity of all these stars who happened to get into the industry out of choice or by coercion of all those registered with the clinic since it opened in 1998. The porn wikileaks site is based in Netherlands and hopes to make the industry more transparent and calls itself a media organization.
