Red Alert In Delhi-NCR After Powerful Dust Storm Hits Region, Thunderstorms And Rain To Follow

After days of intense heat and chilling summer in Delhi NCR, the residents today (Tuesday) witnessed a powerful dust storm impacting the visibility and disrupting normal life across the National Capital Region (NCR). IMD issued red alert for several parts of the region.

Videos shared on social media showed thick clouds of dust moving rapidly through Gurugram before spreading towards Delhi and Noida. The dramatic scenes left many residents surprised as strong winds engulfed roads, buildings and open areas.

Dust Storm Hits Gurugram, Delhi And Noida

The dust storm was first reported from Gurugram, where strong winds swept through several localities during the afternoon.

Within a short period, the weather system moved towards Delhi and nearby areas of Noida and Ghaziabad. The storm led to poor visibility in several locations, affecting traffic movement and outdoor activities. Many residents shared videos online showing trees swaying violently and dust covering large parts of the skyline.

Rain Likely To Bring Relief From Heat

Weather experts said moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms was expected across several parts of Delhi-NCR during the afternoon.

The rain is likely to provide temporary relief from the intense heat that residents have been experiencing over the past few days.

The weather department said moisture from active weather systems over North India has increased the chances of rainfall and thunderstorm activity across the region.
According to meteorologists, the dust storm and thunderstorms are being influenced by multiple weather systems active over North India.

A western disturbance over neighbouring regions, combined with changing wind patterns and increased moisture levels, has created favourable conditions for thunderstorms and strong winds.

These systems are expected to remain active for the next few days, leading to occasional rainfall and cloudy skies across Delhi-NCR.
