Nuclear physicist who helped create China's first atom bomb dead

Beijing, Feb.27 (ANI): Zhu Guangya a nuclear physicist who developed China's first atom and hydrogen bombs, died on Saturday.

Guangya was 87, The Xinhua reported.

He contributed to China's breakthrough in atomic and hydrogen bomb technological research and participated in various other research and development programmes.

He was a senior academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

He served as the vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, during the period 1994 and 2003.

He was born in China's Yichang city and completed his PhD in nuclear physics from the University of Michigan in 1950.

In 1956 he joined the Communist Party of China. (ANI)
