FIA freezes foreign currency accounts of Pak's former Religious Affairs Minister

Islamabad, Jan 25(ANI): Pakistan's Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) has sealed off the foreign currency account of former Minister for Religious Affairs Hamid Saeed Kazmi.

According to sources, Kazmi has many foreign currency accounts with thousands of pounds and dollars in various banks in Multan.

Talking to Geo News, Kazmi confirmed his foreign currency accounts in the banks, which he had earlier denied.

In collaboration with the State Bank, FIA forensic experts investigated into the matter, and have since frozen them.

In December 2010, a nine-member Federal Investigation Team (FIA) had investigated the then Federal Religious Minister Kazmi over charges of corruption in Haj arrangements last year.

The FIA team summoned the minister and put several questions to him to get to the bottom of the Haj scam.

In January, an FIA investigation officer had told the Supreme Court that bank accounts of Kazmi and former DG Haj Rao Shakeel could not be traced. (ANI)
