Hindus ask for worldwide travelling exhibition of Hindu art by India's National Museum
Nevada (US), Sep 27 (ANI): Hindus have urged India's National Museum in capital New Delhi to organize exhibitions of Hindu art in major museums worldwide, thus sharing the rich Hindu art heritage with the rest of the world.
Eminent Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that such exhibition should not be hard to assemble as this Museum has reportedly over 2,00,000 works of art spanning over 5,000 years of pre-historic archaeology, archaeology, jewelry, paintings, decorative arts, wood carving, manuscripts, antiquities, arms and armor, coins, textiles, musical instruments, Harappan Civilization artifacts, etc.Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, further said that its collection of miniature paintings reportedly show themes of Ramayana, Mahabharata, Bhagwatpurana, Durgasaptasati, Jaideva's Geetgobind, Ragamala, Baramasa, Panchatantra, Vishnu Purana, portraits of saints, etc. It has 16-17th century mandapa from Gujarat temple, 13th century door and pillar from a sun temple of Uttaranchal, an 18-19th century temple chariot dedicated to Lord Vishnu from Tamil Nadu, a Tantra art gallery, etc.
Rajan Zed pointed out that "Gods of Angkor" exhibition of the National Museum of Cambodia, which is currently travelling through major museums of USA, has received rave media reviews. It reportedly includes bronze statues of Vishnu-Vasudeva-Narayana (11-12th century), Shiva's bull Nandin (12-13th century), Ganesha (13th century), besides ritual objects of Hindu worship.
If National Museum of Cambodia could do it, why not National Museum of India with such a remarkable collection of sculptures-paintings of Hindu deities, manuscripts of Hindu scriptures, Hindu temple objects and other Hindu artifacts could organize a worldwide travelling exhibition of Hinduism focused art in partnerships with major world museums, Zed asked.
Art had a long and rich tradition in Hinduism and ancient Sanskrit literature talked about religious paintings of deities on wood or cloth, Rajan Zed added.
Established in 1947, National Museum is said to be the largest museum of India with U. Das as Director (C and A). (ANI)
