Foreign troop death toll in Afghanistan rises to over 2,000
London, Aug.16 (ANI): The death toll of foreign troops in nearly nine years of the Afghan war has crossed the 2,000 mark, according to the independent icasualties.org website. ccording to the Telegraph, 2,002 members of international forces have been killed since the US-led invasion in 2001, including 1,226 Americans and 331 from Britain.
In 2010, 434 foreign troops were killed, compared with a peak of 521 in 2009, the paper quoted the web site, as saying.
There are currently more than 140,000 U.S. and NATO-led troops in Afghanistan aiming to flush out remnants of the hardline Islamist Taliban, who went on the offensive after being toppled from government in the 2001 invasion. (ANI)
