B'lore blast: HC dismisses Madhani's bail plea

Bangalore, Aug 4: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday, Aug 3, dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of Abdul Naseer Madhani, chairman of the People's Democratic Party, in the 2008 Bangalore serial blasts case.

Justice N Ananda described the blasts as a terrorist act and said he was rejecting the bail plea considering the seriousness of the offences committed by Madhani, who is an accused.

The judge said the offences committed by Madhani came very much under the purview of the Unlawful Activities Act of 1967 and therefore in view of the internal security and interest of the nation, the plea was being rejected.

The Court rapped the investigating officer for issuing notice to Madhani under section 91 of the CRPC, relating to summons to produce document or other thing which was not warranted when there was concrete evidence to arrest him.

Madhani, along with 31 others, was issued charge sheet for his alleged involvement in the blasts, that left a woman dead and 20 injured on Jul 25, 2008.
