Survivors found in Ethiopian airliner crash: Rpts

Beirut, Jan 25: Even as rescue workers struggle in bad weather conditions to find survivors or bodies, reports on the Ethiopian Airline tragedy give contradictory details.

Some media reports suggest that two bodies have been recovered, while local media quoting Lebanese army officials claim that seven survivors have been rescued.

Earlier, the Transport Minister Ghazi Aridi stated the Ethiopian Airlines plane, carrying 83 passengers with seven crew members, fell into the Mediterranean sea four minutes after taking off from Beirut"s international airport.

Ethiopian flight ET-409 was carrying 54 Lebanese nationals, 22 Ethiopians, besides Iraqi, Syrian, British and French nationals.

The Boeing 737 is suspected to have struck by lightening leading to the accident.
