Indian Army Chief honours Nepalese soldiers, martyrs who fought for India
Kathmandu, Jan 21 (ANI): Visiting Indian Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor on Wednesday appreciated the contribution of Nepalese soldiers in the Indian armed forces.
Talking to reporters, General Kapoor said the Gorkha Regiment of the Indian Army, comprising mostly of Nepalese and India's northeasterner citizens as the bravest of all, and described their combative skills as unique.
"Gorkha regiment commandos have set a unique example of bravery and dedication towards the motherland for the world to see," he added.
Kapoor was present with his wife Kriti, at the event. They distributed special scooters to those injured or disabled during war.
Kriti also gave away blankets and cash awards to the wives of martyrs, in a gesture of respect and gratitude towards those who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
Later, he visited Mustang district, which is considered a strategically sensitive area.
General Kapoor, who inspected High Altitude Training Center of the Nepal Army there, held secret meeting with Chief District Officer Umesh Kumar Dhakal and other security officials.
He also visited the Muktinath Temple and offered prayers.
General Kapoor is scheduled to attend an investiture ceremony where President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav will confer on him the title of Honorary General of Nepal Army today.
He is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and Defense Minister Bidhya Bhandari in Singha Durbar. (ANI)
