No proper procedure to help divorced Pak men to change their status in national IDs

Lahore, Dec. 20 (ANI): Pakistan's National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) does not have a proper procedure for divorced individuals to have their Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) changed.

According to reports, there is no post-separation procedure, whereby a man could get his name removed from the CNIC of his ex-spouse.

When asked about the issue, advocate Rana Muhammad Shabbir said that a man could only get his name removed from his former wife's CNIC by moving to a court of law.

Shabbir supported amendments to the family laws, which would allow family courts to issue directions at the time of dissolution of marriages, directing women to have the names and addresses of their former husbands removed from their CNICs.

Commenting on the issue, NADRA spokesman Farrukh Mushtaq said any individual who wanted to get his name removed from the CNIC of his former wife's card must bring her to the concerned official.

"NADRA can do nothing to amend a CNIC without the consent of the cardholder," The Daily Times quoted Mushtaq, as saying. (ANI)
