French company buys Mahatma's South Africa house
Johannesburg, Oct 7: A French tourism company at twice the asking price of USD 377,029 bought Mahatma Gandhi's house, where he resided almost a century ago.
The specialist touring company Voyageurs du Monde, listed on the Paris Stock Exchange, would turn the property into a Gandhi museum.
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi lived in the house from 1908 to 1910.
Hermann Kallenbach,Gandhi's confidant and architect designed the thatched-roof rondavel- style house.
Malaysian and Indian businessmen including Coal India Limited bid for the property.
