Martyr Major Suri's mortal remains cremated with military honours

Hyderabad, Sep 25 (ANI): Friends and family members bid a tearful adieu to Major J.S Suri of the Rashtriya Rifles here on Friday, as his mortal remains were cremated with full military honours.

Major Suri (30) of the Kumayun regiment was deputed with the 13 Rashtriya Rifles since last one year. He died fighting militants in a 24 hour-long gun battle, in which four militants were killed in the Bandipora, Kashmir Valley on Wednesday.

Suri's body, wrapped in the tricolour, was flown from Srinagar to Hyderabad on Thursday night.

Acting on a tip-off, an Army party led by the Major Suri stormed a house on Tuesday evening, where terrorists were hiding.

Suri is survived by wife S Pallavi. Suri and mother Girija. He was to celebrate his 30th birthday on October 5.

The number of encounters along the Line of Control (LoC) is increasing, with the one in Bandipora being the 33 rd encounter in a span of 46 days. (ANI)
