NATO finds German officer guilty of Afghan blasts
Berlin, Sep 10: A preliminary NATO probe found the German officer ordering the Afghanistan fuel trucks bombing violated procedures, reported the 'Sueddeutsche Zeitung' daily on Thursday, Sep 10.
The NATO report stated that Colonel Georg Klein overstepped his authority and poorly evaluated the situation.
The air strike on last Friday, Sep 4, in the northern province of Kunduz killed dozens.
Klein bombed the Taliban hijacked tankers thinking that else they would be used as truck bombs against the NATO.
It is 'completely clear' that Klein did not respect decision-making procedures, a high-ranking German officer in NATO told the daily.
He added that such a decision should have been communicated to the headquarters of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
