Pak army launches offensive, kills 70 militants

Islamabad, Apr 28: Pakistan security forces continue offensive against the Taliban militants killing up to 70 militants in operations in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) of Pakistan.

The government on Tuesday, Apr 28 warned the militants that it will take action in a 'forceful' manner,

Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that Pakistan army units that are backed by helicopter gunships and heavy artillery attacked Taliban positions in the mountains of Kalpani and Akakheldara in Dir district. This will force the taliban to back out of Buner and other areas.

The army allegedly stepped up pressure as the militants as there were reports that the militants had increased patrolling in the parts of Dir district. They had also occupied buildings along with setting up check points.

"If a handful of militants think they can challenge the writ of the government, let me tell them that the government will take action in a forceful manner," Malik said, speaking outside Parliament.
