India condemns upsurge of violence in Gaza Strip
New Delhi, Nov 17 (UNI) India today condemned the recent upsurge of violence in the Gaza Strip and said there could be no justification for the denial of essential supplies to the 700,000 civilian population there.
A statement issued by the External Affairs Ministry said India remained concerned at the adverse effects of the closure of access points into the Strip and the prevailing humanitarian situation there.
''There can be no justification for the denial of essential supplies including food and fuel to the civilian population of the Gaza Strip numbering over 700,000 persons,'' the statement said..
Calling for an immediate end to violence, India also hopes that peace would be restored urgently and steps taken to ensure that basic humanitarian principles are observed.
''It is also hoped that the situation will not be allowed to aggravate further,'' the statement added.
