Govt to seek grant from Centre to run medical college
Puducherry, Nov 18 (UNI) The Puducherry administration has decided to seek a one time grant from the Centre to run the Government Medical College instead of handing it over to the ESI Corporation, Home and Health Minister E Valsaraj said here today.
In a press release here, the minister said in a meeting of legislators held here, it was decided that the Government would run the medical colleges and seek funds for it from the Central fund.
Mr Valsaraj said it was also decided to take a committee comprising MLAs to Chennai to visit the medical colleges constructed at a cost of less than Rs 150 crore.
It may be noted that the Government had already taken a decision to hand over the building to the ESI Corporation for it's Medical College and it is a "U" turn on the part of the Government after protest by the opposition.
