EC serves show cause notice to 8 persons, including a sitting MLA

New Delhi, Nov 18 (UNI) The Election Commission (EC) today slapped showcause notices to eight persons, including a sitting MLA, for gross violation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) after the announcement of election process for the Delhi Assembly polls.

According to EC sources, the MCC came into effect immediately after the commission announced the holding of elections for NCT, Delhi on October 14. However, sitting MLA from Tughlakabad assembly constituency and Dy Chairman, BJP, Ramesh Bidhuri inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of Opening the construction work of Outfall Drain at Block-F and G Block Pul Pehlad Pur on October 15.

The MCC clearly states that any such schemes or projects could only be inaugurated by civil servants.

The other persons who were served the notice are Municipal Councilor and Member Sadhai Samiti, MCD Ms Sarita Choudhury, Chairman, Ward Samiti, Central Zone Ch Braham Prakash, District President, BJP, Mehrauli Azad Singh, Municpial Councilor Raj Pal Poswal.

Subhash Arya, Leader, Sadan, MCD, Ravidas, Chief Engineer (civil), MCD and Naresh Kumar, Additional Commissioner Engineering, MCD were also served the notice.

The EC, after receiving the detailed report from all concerned and prima facie, established the allegations and has asked them to expalin their position by 1700 hours tomorrow (November 19, 2008).
