DM summons NHPC top brass in bridge collapse case in Kashmir
Baramulla, Nov 18 (UNI) The District Magistrate (DM), Baramulla, has summoned Chief Engineer and General Manager of National Thermal Power Corporation NHPC and four others in bridge collapse case on river Jhelum that left 25 people labourers dead on November 16.
The DM has directed Chief Engineer, General Manager and site engineer of NHPC, contractor, numberdar and chowkidar of village Bandi to appear before him tomorrow in his office.
Twenty five labourers, working on the bridge, died after a portion of the 130 meter-long bridge collapsed on November 16.
Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra, had ordered a Magisterial enquiry into the incident.
The inquiry will be conducted by the District Magistrate, Baramulla within a period of one week.
The authorities have announced Rs one lakh ex-gratia relief to the next of kin of those killed and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
Meanwhile, three bodies were recovered from the river Jehlum.
With this a total of seven bodies have been fished out from the river.
Officials have apprehension that some bodies might have been reached Pakistan occupied Kashmir (POK) as the flow of the water was very fast when the accident took place.
