Coal workers to go on countrywide strike on Dec 18, 19
New Delhi, Nov 18 (UNI) Coal miners all over the country will go on a two-day strike from December 18 in protest against the delay in revision of their wages and government's move to give away coal blocks to private hands.
In a statement here today, the general secretary of the All India Coal Workers Federation and secretary CITU Jibon Roy said the federation had called upon coal miners across the country to go on a nation-wide strike on December 18 and 19 due to inordinate delay in commencing negotiation for revision of wages for workers which has fallen long overdue.
Besides this, they demanded for a decisive halt on the government's move to impose ten year tenure for wage agreement in the coal industry, and its decision to gift away coal blocks to the private hands despite opposition by the trade unions and drastic reduction in total workforce in the coal industry through contractorisation and outsourcing.
