SU students protest fee hike,lock up class rooms
Sambalpur, Oct 22 (UNI) The students of Post Graduate and M Phil departments of the Sambalpur University today locked up class rooms and the administrative block protesting hike in hostel fee.
The students threatened to intensify their agitation and launch an indefinite strike if the fee hike was not withdrawn forthwith.
The University authorities had increased the annual hostel fee from Rs 2200 to 4200 and the hostel caution fee from Rs 50 to Rs 1000.
'' The hike will add to the miseries of the poor students of the backward Western Orissa districts,'' said a students' representative.
'' The Chairman of the PG council will take care of the situation,'' a senior staff of the university said.
Tension prevailed in the area and adequate security personnel have been deployed in the campus to prevent any untoward incident, Burla Inspector-in-Charge Bidyut Panda said.
