Constitution of 'Text Book Commission' recommended

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 6 (UNI) The K N Panicker Committee, appointed by the Kerala Government to study the controversies relating to the Standard VII Social Science textbook, had recommended setting up of a 'Text Book Commission' to monitor the preparation of text books.

Talking to newspersons here today, Mr Panicker said the Commission would help to avoid such controversies in future.

The Committee also observed that though there was no need to withdraw the existing controversial books, the contents and the narration should be improved and added that from next year, the books should be re-examined and some improvements made in contents and explanations.

It also recommended that sufficient women representation would be ensured in the panels in preparation of books, curricula and syllabus, apart from inclusion of experts in respective subjects in books selection panel.

It also suggested inclusion of plenty of cartoons and pictures and use of language, easily understood by students. Training should be provided to those who write for text books.

The recommendations were expected to be submitted to the Government tomorrow.
