New generation of Nagaland wants peace in the state
Kohima, Oct 4 : After having suffered for three generations in the mire of under development and violence, the new generation of Nagas in Nagaland want a better life.
Some of the youth organizations in the state are taking initiatives to bring about lasting solution in Nagaland, which has witnessed intra tribal killings in recent months.
When the students come together and discuss issues, one thing that dominates their talk is the issue of continuing sporadic violence and lack of opportunities in the state which is full of resources and natural richness.
Majority of the students in the state speak English with ease and are naturally inclined towards music and sports, but not many talents have managed to come out due to violence in the state.
Imchayoba Imchen, the president of Naga Students Federation, said, "To secure peace requires everybody's effort, including the youth, senior citizens, women and NGOs. It is a collective effort and the responsibility of all to secure peace. Our future is in our hands, if we want a peaceful future then we will have to work from today onwards."
Medo Yhokha, a member of Angami Students Union, said, "Peace is a basic requisite for a society to develop. Without peace there won't be anything in society. The initiative and the efforts of the Nagas to bring peace in the State is a very challenging exercise. But ultimately our determination will show results."
The people of Nagaland want permanent peace, an atmosphere where there is no mindless violence by those who claim to fight for the interest of Nagas.
"The role of the youth is important at this juncture. In order to bring peace in the Naga society, tribalism has to be done away with and everyone has to come together under one umbrella to make their voice heard," said Ketou Vilou, a Naga youth.
In the last few years, the number of Nagas entering schools and colleges has gone up.
Today students and professionals from Nagaland are contributing to nation building. There are many administrative officers from Nagaland who are working in states like, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh as District Magistrates and presiding over the fate of many poor people.
Nagaland has declared music as an industry and is working over time to invite the foreign and domestic investment in the area of infrastructure development. Recently the state got the best state award in the field of tourism. With India's "Look East Policy" promising to bring the Association of South East Asian Nation (ASEAN) nations closer, the new generation in the state understands the importance of such development and the benefits that it will bring to the state and to its people.
