Delhiites exhorted to work without Ozone Depleting Substances

New Delhi, Sep 16 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today underlined the need to work without Ozone Depleting Substances case, and adopt ODS-free equipments and appliances.

Inaugurating World Ozone Day Celebration at Delhi Secretariat, the Chief Minister said,''If the Ozone layer actually gets depleted, increased penetration of ultra-violet radiation will have profound impact on all living creatures including human and plant life. For human beings there would be increased risk of diseases of skin, eye and hand affect on the immune system.'' ODS-free technologies are being propagated in the city of Delhi so that it can contribute its bit to protection of the Ozone layer.

Chloro Fluoro Carbons (CFC)-11 are being used to refrigerate, CFC-12 and Halon-1211 are being used for foam blowing, Methyl Bromide is being used for fumigant and Carbon Tetra Chloride (CTC) is being used as cleaning agent/processing agent.

Department of Environment has distributed calendars, which are prepared from prize-winning posters of school and college children, on the theme of Ozone depletion.

Eco-Club schools and RWAs organise awareness campaigns for ODS-free equipment and appliances.
