Thief arrested with stolen gun in Poonch

Jammu, Sep 8 (UNI) The state police arrested a thief along with a stolen gun of a Village Defence Committee (VDC) member and solved several cases of theft in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources here today said.

''Several raids were conducted yesterday on the basis of specific information and the accused along with a stolen .303 weapon was arrested from a hide-out in tehsil Mendhar,'' police sources told UNI.

The accused has been identified as Mohd Zuber, resident of village Chhanga, tehsil Mendhar.

However, the accused along with his two accomplices, who are still absconding, were involved in several theft cases in the town.

''Some recovery has been made from the possession of the arrested accused including a stolen gun while the absconding associates will soon be apprehended as police is raiding various areas in the town on his disclosure,'' the sources added.
