Singapore PM to address global Indian community

Singapore, Sep 5 (UNI) Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong will open the inaugural global Indian business community gathering in Singapore to be held from October 9-11 it was announced today.

President S R Nathan and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew will also be addressing the 700-delegate Indian Diaspora gathering under the "Pravasi Bharatiya Divas" (PBD) which is being held for the first time outside India.

The meeting is being organized by the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Overseas Indian Affairs Ministry as well as Confederation of Indian Industry.

Both the Singapore and Indian governments are supporting the gathering, which will also be addressed by four ministers from India and five ministers from Singapore.

The gathering will focus on exploring business opportunities across the world through the Indian network.

Speakers and delegates are also expected to hold discussions on bilateral trade between India and Singapore and multi-lateral dealings between India and the Southeast Asian region, said Satpal Khattar, chairman of the steering committee organizing the PBD.

More than 50 government and business leaders will be addressing various sessions, forums and seminars during the three-day gathering.
