Hartal observed in Kerala District

Kalpetta, Aug 5 (UNI) Shops and establishments remained closed in the hilly district of Wayanad in Kerala today following a hartal called by the Opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) in protest against the alleged ''anti-farmer'' policy of the Left Democratic Front(LDF) Government on the Central loan waiver scheme.

Almost all educational institutions were also closed and private buses were off the roads, as an impact of the dawn-to-dusk hartal, official sources said, adding offices reported thin attendance in the absence of public transport.

Police said the hartal was by and large peaceful, as no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the district so far.
