Seven get life imprisnment in dowry murder case

Barrackpore, Jul 31 (UNI) A fast track court here today sentenced seven people, including three women, to life imprisonment in connection with a dowry murder case.

Additional District and Sessions judge Arup Basu yesterday held all the seven accused guilty of killing a 24-year old housewife and her daughter on August 1, 2006.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 5000 against each or in default, an additional imrisonment of one year.

The prosecution said Kakoli Poddar and three-year old daughter Sana were strangulated to death by her husband Debashish, along with his parents, sisters and brothers-in-law at their Kediabagan residence at Kanchrapara because the victim had refused to comply with the demands of additional money, even after handing over substantial dowry during their marriage in May 2002.
