HC notice to Union Govt on judges security
Chandigarh July 8 (UNI) Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Union Government to provide a bullet prooof car to Chandigarh additional district and sessions judge Ravi Kumar Sondhi who had last year decided the Beant Singh assassination case.
The court has sought compliance report too by august 28. While some of the accused were handed down death sentence, some others were given life imprisonment.
The matter of security of this judicial officer was taken up on its own by the court. However, senior counsel for Chandigarh administration Anupam Gupta informed the court that adequate security both at the office and the residence, including commandos, has been provided to the concerned judge. A request for a bullet proof car was also made to the union government, but the same was declined. .
The court also directed the punjab and haryana governments to ensure proper security for Sondhi as and when he visisted their respective areas.
