Mamata terms Nandigram victory as "people's victory"

Kolkata, May 21 (UNI) Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today described the victory in the Panchayat election in Nandigram as the "victory of the people against red terror".

Talking to newsmen here, Ms Banerjee said, '' We could have won more seats, had the CPI(M) resorted to terror in several areas, '' and asserted that "bloody politics" taken recourse to by the ruling party could never muffle democracy.

'' We have appealed to the State Election Commission for an impartial election precess to uphold democracy, '' she said and congratulated the people of Nandigram for teaching the ruling party a lesson by denouncing the Land Acquisition policy.

She alleged that the Left Front was treading the wrong path and the Nandigram result was a pointer to this.
