UT to off lights to save earth
Chandigarh, Apr 21 (UNI) Supporting the cause of global warming, the Chandigarh Administration today appealed all the residents of the city to voluntarily switch-off the lights for two minutes at 2000 hrs tomorrow on the occasion of 'Earth Day'.
"The objective of the drive is to unite and inspire people of the city to do their bit in saving the environment in order to the save themselves. This is a war which needs support from every individual," an official spokesman said.
"The steady deterioration of the climate has become a challenge which has to be tackled before it becomes uncontrolled. Initiatives are being taken worldwide and comprehensive plans focusing on the use of renewable sources of energies, developing of wave energy plants, next generation bio-fuels and optimum use of fossil fuels are being prepared," the spokesman added.
