Plastic banned in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 21 (UNI) The Kerala government today banned the use of all varieties of plastic materials below 50 microns in thickness in the state.

The government issued a notification in this regard today.

The ban was imposed after the earlier ban on 30 microns failed to yield the desired results, a release said here.

Those who violate this would have to pay a fine of Rs One lakh, including one-year imprisonment.

The Corporation and Panchayat secretaries had been entrusted with the implementation of the ban.
