New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) Vice-President Mohd. Hamid Ansari today called for a change in attitude towards the female child, terming it "a curse" on society.
"It is not only inhuman but badly affecting our society also," he pointed out while inaugurating a function "Kanyabhrun Hatya Ke Khilaf Sarvdharm Maha Abhiyan Samaroh" organised by the National Integration Committee here.
Mr Ansari said mere framing of rules would not serve the purpose.
The people at large would have to be motivated against it.
He congratulated the organisers of the function for starting a movement in this connection and hoped that now that society had been awakened the problem could be rooted out.
The Vice-President received a copy of the book entitled "The Unborn Curse" by Acharaya Shri Lokesh on the occasion. The founder of Ahimsa Vishwa Bharti Acharya Shri Lokesh in his address cautioned that if the problem of female foeticide is not solved in time it may have more dangerous consequences than AIDS or cancer.
Shahi Imam of Fatehpuri Masjid, Dr Mufti Mohd. Mukarram and Rajasthan Patrika Chief Editor Gulab Kothari also spoke.
