Dhaka reacts to Indian HC's remarks on rice export

Dhaka, Feb 18 (UNI) Reacting to the Indian High Commissioner's remarks last week about exporting rice to Bangladesh, the country's Foreign Ministry has said that rice procurement from India was being done on commercial basis without undue cost to either nation.

A spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday said, ''rice procurement from India was being conducted on the basis of commercial purchase, which should be a win-win situation for both parties, without undue cost to either,'' The News Today reported citing UNB.

Indian High Commissioner Pinak Ranjan Chakraborty after a meeting with the Home Affairs Advisor M A Matin on February 14 told reporters that India must feed her own people first, but will export five lakh tonnes of rice to Bangladesh alone ''to honour its past commitments.'' UNI XC SLD GC1903
