Rs 76.32 cr for Classical Tamil Institute: Cabinet
New Delhi, Jan 30 (UNI) The Centre today sanctioned Rs 76.32 crore for the setting up of a Central Institute of Classical Tamil in Chennai with the state Chief Minister as its ex-officio Chairperson.
The amount can be spent over four years, while the institute would come up on a 17-acre land, given free of cost by the Tamil Nadu government, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters after a Cabinet meeting which approved the proposal.
The Institute would be set up with 100 per cent recurring and non recurring costs to be borne by the Central Government.
The main objective of this decision would be for preservation and development of Classical Tamil which is an integral part of India's composite heritage, Mr Dasmunsi said.
