No fresh violence but life paralysed in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Jun 1: No fresh incidence of violence was reported from any place since last night even as life, railway and road traffic in major parts of Rajasthan continued to remain paralysed in the wake of four day old Gujjar community agitation for inclusion of their community in the Scheduled Tribe category.

Large number of pilgrims who were stranded at and around Balaji Shrine in Dausa district today held a demonstration urging the authorities to make arrangements for their journey to home and provide them ration and other essential assistance till then.

Large number of tourists - both domestic and foreigners - were also stranded at various points in the state for the past three days.

A large number of students who were preparing in Jaipur, Kota and elsewhere in the state for the entrance test for admission to the MBBS course in All India Medical Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, could not appear in the test today as the bus and train services were disrupted for three days.

Meanwhile, also the railway authorities today cancelled 19 trains originating or passing through Rajasthan and changed routes of some other trains.

Meanwhile, efforts for restoration of peace continued. Three rounds of talks between the four member group of ministers(GoMs) and the Gujjar leaders had so far been held and next round of talks was expected to be held here later this afternoon.

Meanwhile, a counter agitation was also emerging as people of Meena community, a ST community, held demonstrations in Dausa and Samleti in nearby Bharatpur yesterday and warned the authorities to open roads for traffic or they would resort to direct action.

A meeting of Meena community leaders was also scheduled to be held today.

As many as 22 people have so far been killed in violence and police firing in the Gujjar agitation since Tuesday. The Army has also been called out to assist civil authorities in dealing with the situation in seven towns of Kota, Jhalawar, Alwar, Bundi Sawai Madhopur, Karauli Dausa and Bharatpur.
