CM Raje briefs Governor on Gujjar agitation
Jaipur, May 31: Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje today apprised state Governor Pratibha Patil of prevailing situation in the state in the wake of ongoing agitation by the Gujjar community to press for their inclusion into the Scheduled Tribe category.
Ms Raje accompanied by Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria, went to the Raj Bhawan to meet the Governor. The meeting lasted for about 30 minutes.
Chief Secretary Anil Vaish, Director General of Police AS Gill were also present.
According to sources, the meeting between the Chief minister and the governor was held on a call from Ms Patil.
The meeting assumed significance in view of the governor's visit to New Delhi yesterday where which she met Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Union Law Minister Hansraj Bhardwaj and Congress President Sonia Gandhi. In a bid to build pressure against the Chief Minister, Congress MP from Dausa Sachin Pilot has already demanded dismissal of the State Government and imposition of President rule in the state in view of the government's ''failure'' in dealing with the situation.
Congress general secretary and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had also demanded resignation from the chief minister in the wake of Gujjar agitation in the state.
