UP: Notification for IV phase to be issued Mar 27

Lucknow, Mar 27: Even as election campaign in Uttar Pradesh is underway in full swing, Election Commission will notify the election process for the fourth phase tomorrow in 57 assembly seats where polling would be held on April 23.

Campaigning for the first phase in 62 assembly seats where polling is slated to be held on April 7 has started with BJP, BSP, Congress and the ruling SP leaders attending several election meetings on a daily basis.

The nomination process for the second phase polls in 58 assembly segments to be held on April 13 will end this afternoon while process for the third phase in 57 seats will end on Monday next.

With the notification for Phase IV, now election process in 234 seats out of the total 403 member UP assembly have started. The nomination for the fourth phase would be accepted till April 4 while scrutiny of papers would be done on the next day. Candidates can withdraw their nominations till April 7.

In the fourth phase, over 1.57 crore voter including 85.2 lakh male and 72.1 lakh female will exercise their franchise at 9208 polling stations spread out in 10 districts. More than 17,500 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) would also be used in this phase.

EC had made elaborate security arrangements for free and fair polls in the state and Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami is personally monitoring the election process in the state.

The districts going to poll in this phase are: Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Barabanki, Bhariach, Basti,Balrampur,Gonda, Santkabirnagar, Shravasti and Sidharthnagar.

The constituencies are: Mohamdi(SC), Utraula,Haiderabad, Sadullah Nagar,Paila(SC),Mankapur(SC),Lakhimpur,Mujehna,Srinagar, Gonda,Nighasan, Katra Bazar,Dhaurehra,Colonelganj,Behta,Dixir(SC), Biswan,Harraiya,Mahmoodabad,Captainganj,Sidhauli(SC),Nagar East(SC), Laharpur,Basti,Sitapur,Ramnagar,Hargaon(SC),Domariaganj,Misrikh, Itwa, Machhrehta(SC),Shohratgarh,Rudauli,Naugarh,Dariyabad,Bansi, Siddhaur(SC),Khesraha,Haidergarh,Menhdawal,Masauli,Khalilabad(SC), Nawabganj,Hainsarbazar(SC),Fatehpur(SC),Ramnagar,Kaiserganj, Fakharpur,Mahsi,Nanpara,Charda(SC),Bhinga,Bahraich,Ikauna(SC), Gainsari,Tulsipur and Balrampur.

In 2002 assembly polls, ruling Samajwadi Party had won 31 seats followed by BJP 14, BSP 9, Congress 2 and Janata Dal (United) 1 in the 57 seats in stake in the fourth phase.

Meanwhile, EC has deployed 657 companies of central forces in UP for free and fair polls with earmarking each and every polling station as 'sensitive.' The Commission has already appointed one central observer for each constituency, besides additional observers wouldbe deployed for the sensitive constituencies.

A phase cordinator has also been appointed by the EC who will monitor the deployment of central forces and hear the complaints of the political parties.

The notification for the fifth phase will be issued on April 3 for 58 assembly seats where polling would be held on April 28.

Last date for submitting the nomination papers will be April 10, while scrutiny of papers would be done the next day. Nominations can be withdrawn till April 13.

The sixth phase of the election process in the state starts on April 5 in 52 assembly seats where polling would be held on May 3.

The last date for submitting of nomination ends on April 12, while the scrutiny of papers would be done the next day. The candidates can withdraw their papers till April 16.

The seventh and the last phase of elections in 59 Assembly segments of eastern UP will start on April 13 where polling is scheduled to be held on May 8. The candidates can submit their nominations till April 20 and their papers would be scrutinised the next day. April 23 is the last date for withdrawal of the nominations.

Counting of votes of all the seven phases would be taken up in the morning of May 11 and the entire election process would be completed by May 13.

The tenure of the 14th assembly expires on May 14.
