Congress not in race to form govt in UP: Sibal

Lucknow, Mar 26: The Congress today admitted that it was not in the race to form the next government in Uttar Pradesh, but claimed that no party would get an absolute majority after the forthcoming assembly elections.

Talking to reporters here, Union Minister and convener of AICC National Media Committee Kapil Sibal said his party was not in the race to form the next government in the state. ''But let me add, no political party will be able to form the next government,'' he said, indicating a hung assembly.

To a poser on his meeting with Muslim leaders here yesterday, Mr Sibal said he had not sought any assurance from them to vote for the Congress. ''But we have told everyone, not only Muslims, about the loss the state witnessed when the Congress was out of power for the past 18 years...we want people to decide,'' he said.

On the possibility of Shahrukh Khan campaigning for party candidates in the state, the Congress leader said he only knew about the central leaders who would tour the state for electioneering.
