Maharaja of Travancore royal family passes away at 91 (In pics)

Trivandrum, Dec 16: Maharaja Uthradam Thirunal Marthanda Verma, the 91-year-old last ruling monarch of the royal family of Travancore, died of cardiac arrest at 2.20 am on Monday.

At the time of death, his daughters Pooyam Thirunal Parvathi Bayi, Aswathi Thirunal Gauri Lakshmi Bayi and son Padmanabha Varma were beside him. The late king will be succeeded by Moolam Thirunal Rama Varma.

Uthradam Thirunal was admitted in a hospital on December 6 due to deteriorating health conditions. He will be cremated before sunset at the Kavadiyar Palace Grounds on Monday.

Born on March 22, 1922, Uthradam Thirunal was the younger brother of the last ruling monarch of Travancore, Maharajah Chitra Thirunal Rama Varma.
