Football Federation President Kalyan Chaubey Is Destroying IOA: Bhaichung Bhutia
Bhaichung Bhutia, the renowned former Indian forward, has spoken out about the current controversy engulfing Kalyan Chaubey, the president of the All India Football Federation (AIFF). In an interview, Bhutia expressed his dismay over the actions of Chaubey, claiming they have significantly tarnished the federation's reputation. The situation has escalated to the point where PT Usha, the esteemed president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), has accused Chaubey of overstepping his bounds by falsely claiming the role of acting CEO of the IOA and circulating an unauthorized agenda for an upcoming Special General Meeting (SGM).
Bhutia's concerns highlight a series of questionable decisions and statements attributed to Chaubey, including the controversial relocation of the Santosh Trophy to Saudi Arabia and comments about the physical stature of players from the North East. These actions and remarks have not only cast a shadow over Chaubey's judgment but have also raised questions about his intentions within the IOA. Bhutia, who has been a stalwart of Indian football, wearing the national jersey for over 16 years, voiced his disappointment, stating, "We've never had such negative publicity before that has happened under Kalyan."

Allegations and Calls for Resignation
The turmoil doesn't end with just public outcries and criticisms; there are serious allegations of corruption that have been brought against Chaubey. Notably, Nilanjan Bhattacharjee, the AIFF's former principal legal advisor, and Shaji Prabhakaran, the former general secretary, have both accused Chaubey of corruption. Bhattacharjee went as far as to pen a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi voicing his concerns, alleging that Chaubey engaged in corrupt practices, including a non-transparent tender process and misuse of federation funds for personal expenses. Following these allegations, Bhattacharjee's contract with the AIFF was terminated.
In light of these grave accusations, Bhutia firmly believes that Chaubey should resign from his position as president of the AIFF. He argues that the mounting allegations, especially from individuals appointed by Chaubey himself, indicate a need for fresh leadership and immediate elections within the federation. Bhutia's call for Chaubey's resignation underscores the urgency of restoring integrity and trust within the federation and, by extension, the broader Indian football community.
IOA President's Stand Against Unauthorized Actions
The controversy further deepened with PT Usha's revelations about Chaubey's unauthorized actions within the IOA. According to Usha, Chaubey circulated a circular on official IOA letterhead, which included a vote of no confidence against her. This move, unauthorized and misleading, prompted Usha to publicly clarify that Chaubey does not hold the position of acting CEO, as he claimed. The incident, set against the backdrop of an SGM scheduled for October 25, has thrown the governance of Indian sports into disarray, highlighting the need for accountability and transparency at the highest levels.
In conclusion, the series of controversies surrounding Kalyan Chaubey have not only cast a shadow over his tenure as president of the AIFF but have also raised serious concerns about governance in Indian sports. From unauthorized actions within the IOA to allegations of corruption, the situation calls for immediate intervention to safeguard the integrity of sports administration in India. As Bhutia and others voice their concerns, the sports community watches closely, hoping for a resolution that restores faith in the leadership of both the AIFF and the IOA.
