Things are not going according to plan for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League 2026 season. The five-time champions have started their campaign with three straight defeats and are currently sitting at the bottom of the points table.

Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK have struggled to find rhythm with both bat and ball. But one of the biggest reasons behind their poor start has been the absence of their iconic former captain MS Dhoni.

MS Dhoni's return delayed

Fans hoping to see MS Dhoni back in action soon may have to wait a little longer. According to a report by Cricbuzz, the 44-year-old wicketkeeper-batter is likely to miss CSK's upcoming match against Delhi Capitals on April 11.

The game will be played at CSK's home ground, the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Dhoni has been out of action since the start of the season due to a calf strain and is currently undergoing rehabilitation. Reports suggest he may need at least another week before he regains full match fitness.

If recovery goes as planned, CSK are hoping to have him back for their clash against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 18.

Another injury worry for CSK

CSK's problems do not end with Dhoni. The franchise is also dealing with an injury concern involving South African batter Dewald Brevis.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed that Dhoni is still in rehab, while Brevis' availability for the next match will depend on how quickly he recovers.

"MS is undergoing rehab and it will take some time. We can't say exactly how long," Kasi said.

Fleming optimistic about Brevis comeback

CSK head coach Stephen Fleming sounded hopeful about Brevis returning soon.

"We hope he is going to be right for the next game. We have five days before the next match and we've been careful with his recovery," Fleming said after CSK's defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

"It's a big loss but we are looking forward to getting him back."

With injuries piling up and results not going their way, Chennai Super Kings will be desperate to turn their campaign around when they face Delhi Capitals at Chepauk. For now, however, fans may have to wait a little longer to see Dhoni back behind the stumps.
