Smriti Mandhana And Girls End RCB's 16-Year Title Drought, Win WPL; Virat Kohli Extends Wishes

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) won the second edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL 2024) on Sunday by 8 wickets against the Delhi Capitals. Smriti Mandhana-led side ended RCB's 16-year title drought by bagging the WPL's glittering trophy.

Soon after the match, RCB men's team ace batter Virat Kohli congratulated and extended his wishes to captain Smriti Mandhana via video calling for winning the Women's Premier League aka WPL 2024.

RCB Wins WPL 2024

It was a show of total dominance by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as the team was ahead in every department of the game from start to end. It won't be wrong to say that RCB avenged all four defeats that they faced against Delhi Capitals in the league stage.

At the start of the match, the Delhi Capital's skipper Meg Lanning won the toss and chose to bat first at the home ground, but the RCB bowlers spoiled the party as they bundled out the hosts for a low total of 113 in 18.3 overs.

The picture was almost clear after the first inning as 114 was an easy target for RCB batters. Thanks to Smriti Mandhana (31) and Sophie Devine (32) powerful innings, RCB made a strong start, and Elyse Perry (35*) and Richa Ghosh (17*) helped the team cross the winning line.

In the post-match conference, skipper Smriti Mandhana thanked RCB's loyal fan base who continued backing the team even on the bad days. She said Bengaluru fans have been demanding "Ee Sala Cup Namde", and I want to say to them "Ee Sala Cup Namdu".

Former cricketers namely Dinesh Karthik, Chris Gayle, Virendra Sehwag, and others congratulated Royal Challengers Bangalore's women's team for a brilliant show throughout the tournament.

It was the first time in the history of franchise cricket that a team won all major awards like trophy, Orange Cap, Purple Cap, Fair Play award, and Emerging player of the season award.
