Air India AI479 Crosses Into Pakistan Airspace Near Amritsar, Probe Ordered

Air India's Delhi-Amritsar service came under scrutiny after one of its flights briefly entered Pakistani airspace during a go-around procedure at Amritsar airport. The airline has acknowledged the incident and confirmed that both regulatory authorities and its internal teams are examining the circumstances that led to the airspace infringement.

Flight Briefly Crosses Into Pakistani Airspace

According to Air India, the incident involved flight AI479, which was operating from Delhi to Amritsar on June 22. While carrying out a go-around manoeuvre during its approach to land at Amritsar airport, the aircraft marginally crossed into Pakistani airspace.

A go-around is a standard aviation procedure in which a pilot aborts the landing approach and climbs away from the runway to attempt another landing, usually due to operational or safety considerations.

Air India Confirms Incident

In an official statement, the airline acknowledged the airspace breach and said the matter has already been reported to the relevant authorities.

"The crew operating flight AI479 from Delhi to Amritsar on 22 June had marginally infringed into the Pakistan airspace while manoeuvring a go-around at Amritsar airport. The incident has been reported to the regulatory authorities and is being investigated internally," the airline said in a statement.

The airline did not provide further details regarding the duration of the airspace entry or the specific factors that may have contributed to the incident.

Regulatory And Internal Investigation Underway

Air India stated that the matter is now under review. Aviation regulators have been informed, while the airline has also initiated its own internal investigation to determine how the aircraft briefly entered foreign airspace during the manoeuvre.

Such incidents are generally examined closely to assess compliance with operational procedures, air traffic control coordination, and flight path management.

While confirming the incident, Air India stressed that the safety and security of passengers and crew remain paramount.
