What was initially reported as a tragic fall at Pune's Lohagad Fort has now evolved into a suspected murder conspiracy that has shocked the city. Twenty-six-year-old real estate executive Ketan Agarwal died after falling into a deep valley during an outing on June 18, but investigators now believe the incident may have been a carefully planned crime. Police have arrested his fiancée, Siya Goyal, and her alleged partner, Chetan Choudhary, as they probe whether the victim was deliberately pushed just months before his scheduled wedding.

Family's Doubts Trigger Murder Investigation

The case first came to light as an accidental fall at the popular hill fort near Pune. However, questions raised by Agarwal's family led investigators to re-examine the circumstances surrounding his death.

According to the investigation, Ketan's sister Sanjana became suspicious after speaking to Siya Goyal following the funeral. Alleged inconsistencies in her account prompted the family to approach police and seek a detailed inquiry.

As investigators dug deeper, they began examining whether the Lohagad visit had been planned with criminal intent. Police are reportedly looking into several previous occasions when Goyal allegedly encouraged Agarwal to visit the fort area.

Investigators have also revisited an incident from June 14. Police suspect Goyal may have attempted to push Agarwal near a dangerous section of the fort, but he survived after grabbing onto nearby bushes. When questioned at the time, she allegedly told him she had spotted a snake. Authorities are now examining whether that episode was an earlier failed attempt rather than an accident.

June 18 Birthday Outing Under Scanner

The focus of the investigation remains the events of June 18, which was Goyal's birthday. Police believe Agarwal accompanied her to Lohagad Fort, unaware that he was allegedly being targeted.

Investigators claim that Choudhary was following the couple during the trip. According to the police theory, the accused allegedly used the excuse of taking photographs near a steep cliff edge before Agarwal was pushed into the valley.

Rescue personnel later launched a difficult recovery operation that lasted several hours before retrieving his body from the gorge.

The case has since been registered under sections related to murder and criminal conspiracy, and both accused are currently being questioned by police.

Call Records And CCTV Evidence Being Examined

Digital evidence has emerged as a crucial part of the investigation. Police are examining the alleged relationship between Goyal and Choudhary, which they believe may have played a key role in the crime.

According to investigators, call records indicate that the two had remained in regular contact for nearly three years. Data reportedly shows 2,004 calls exchanged between January 1 and June 18, amounting to almost 238 hours of conversation.

Authorities are also scrutinising FaceTime logs, WhatsApp communication and other digital interactions to determine whether the alleged conspiracy was discussed or coordinated through electronic channels.

CCTV footage has provided another significant lead. Investigators reportedly identified a man wearing a hoodie and following the vehicle carrying Agarwal and Goyal. The attire attracted attention because temperatures were reportedly around 33 degrees Celsius. Police later identified the individual as Choudhary and are analysing the footage alongside mobile location records and witness statements.

Who Was Ketan Agarwal?

Ketan Agarwal lived in Pune district's Lodha Belmondo township in Gahunje and belonged to a prominent real estate family. He served as director and chief marketing officer in the family's business, led by his father Vishal Agarwal.

He completed his business administration studies at Symbiosis before pursuing entrepreneurship studies at Babson College in the United States. Family members describe him as ambitious, dedicated and deeply connected to his parents.

His wedding to Siya Goyal was scheduled for November, and preparations were reportedly already underway. The families had allegedly finalised a palace venue in Udaipur, while arrangements for guests reportedly included two chartered aircraft.

The revelation of the alleged murder plot has left relatives devastated. Family members have questioned why the engagement was not simply called off if the relationship was facing difficulties. Ketan's father has reportedly expressed anguish over the circumstances surrounding his son's death, while his mother remains in deep shock.

Why Lohagad Fort Is Central To The Probe

Lohagad Fort, located near Pune and Lonavala, is among Maharashtra's most visited historic hill forts. Closely associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the site attracts thousands of tourists, particularly during the monsoon season.

Its steep cliffs, narrow pathways and deep valleys have often been considered dangerous, especially during wet weather. Because accidental falls are not uncommon in the region, the initial account of Agarwal's death did not immediately raise suspicion.

That changed when investigators began comparing statements, travel history, CCTV footage and digital records. Police are now trying to establish whether the fort's terrain was deliberately chosen as part of a planned murder.

Beyond the criminal investigation, the case has also sparked discussions around pre-marital pressures, family expectations and unresolved personal relationships. While police remain focused on evidence, investigators are also examining whether fears of social embarrassment or reluctance to end the engagement may have contributed to the alleged motive.
