Shreyas Iyer Video Message After IPL Auction 2024 Deal, Says Elated To Join Punjab Kings Family

Soon after the Punjab Kings sealed a deal for Shreyas Iyer for IPL 2025, star cricketers shared a video message to thank the franchise and fans. He said that he is elated to join PBKS and looking forward to the exciting season ahead.

Shreyas Iyer became the second-most expensive player ever at IPL auction.

With a base price of Rs. 2 crore, he was fiercely contested by Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals. The bidding war saw his price soar past Rs. 24.75 crore, eventually being signed by PBKS for Rs. 26.75 crore.

Shreyas's record as the highest-paid player in IPL history was short-lived, however. Rishabh Pant soon surpassed him when Lucknow Super Giants acquired him for Rs. 27 crore. This marked a new high in IPL auction history, showcasing the immense value placed on top players.

Record-Breaking Bids

Before Shreyas's record-breaking bid, Mitchell Starc held the title of the most expensive signing in IPL history. He was purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs. 24.75 crore during the previous auction in Dubai. This bid had broken Pat Cummins' earlier record when he was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs. 20.5 crore.

The auction also saw other significant signings, including Arshdeep Singh joining Punjab Kings for Rs. 18 crore through RTM (Right to Match). Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami was picked up by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs. 10 crore.
