Rishabh Pant Injury Forces BCCI To Act—Here’s Who Will Replace Him

India's vice-captain and star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has opened up for the first time since being ruled out of the remainder of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The left-hander suffered a foot fracture during the fourth Test in Manchester and will now undergo six weeks of rest before beginning rehabilitation.

The injury occurred on Day 1 of the Manchester Test when Pant, batting on 37, inside-edged a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes onto his foot. In visible pain, Pant collapsed on the ground and was immediately attended to by the medical team. He was later escorted off the field in a golf-cart-style vehicle. Scans confirmed a foot fracture, ruling him out of the ongoing series against England.

Despite the injury, Pant showed resilience by returning to bat on Day 2 of the same innings, where he completed a half-century before falling to Jofra Archer. He was also prepared to bat again on the final day, but it wasn't required as Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja held firm to ensure India secured a hard-fought draw.

In a heartfelt statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Pant expressed gratitude for the support he has received:

"Appreciate all the love and good wishes coming my way. It's been a real source of strength. I will begin rehab once my fracture heals and I am slowly settling into the process. Staying patient, following the routines and giving it my 100 percent."

He added:

"Playing for my country has always been the proudest moment of my life. Can't wait to be back doing what I love."

Jagadeesan Named as Pant's Replacement

On Sunday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially confirmed that Pant would miss the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, scheduled to begin on Thursday, July 31, at The Oval.

"The BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor his progress, and the team wishes him a speedy recovery," the board said in a statement.

The Men's Selection Committee has named Narayan Jagadeesan as Pant's replacement in the squad.

A Standout Performer in the Series

Pant had been in sensational form throughout the series. The 27-year-old southpaw scored 479 runs in seven innings, including two centuries in the series opener at Headingley. He also played a gritty knock of 74 at Lord's, despite being struck on the hand while attempting to collect a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah.

England currently leads the five-Test series 2-1, with the final match set to decide the outcome of the much-anticipated contest.
