My Mother Was In ICU...: R Ashwin Shares Emotional Story On 'Medical Emergency' During India vs England Test

India vs England day two of the Rajkot Test, a day that Ravichandran Ashwin will never forget in his life. It was the day when India's spin sensation was at the top of the world, but equally worried. That day, Ashwin became India's second bowler to dismiss 500 test wickets, after Anil Kumble. Everyone was congratulating him, celebrating the milestone of his cricketing career.

But minutes after Ashwin reached the feat, he received the news about the sudden collapse of his mother, who was hospitalized and kept in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

In a conversation with ESPN, the cricketer shared the emotional part saying: "When I landed and got to the hospital, my mom was slipping in and out of consciousness, and the first thing she asked me was, 'Why did you come?' The next time she was conscious, she said, "I think you should go back because the Test match is happening."

Ashwin also shared the story of the struggle he, his parents, and the rest of the family members did to make him a successful cricketer.

"The entire family is built on cricket and to facilitate my career. It hasn't been easy. It has been very hard on them. It's been a big roller-coaster for them - going through the emotions and ups and downs that I myself do," R Ashwin said.

He added it's been years now since he has been associated with the national side but his father still watches play like it is their son's debut game. Cricket means a lot to them.

"They have eliminated anything that comes in the way of my cricket. That has been the sole purpose of their lives ever since I can remember," Ashwin further said.

With India taking on England in the 5th test at Dharmshala, R Ashwin marks another feat. This is going to be his 100th Test match, where he would eye to deliver his best and power his team with deadly spells.
