MS Dhoni's Former Business Associates File Defamation Case Against Him

Former India captain MS Dhoni is likely to face some trouble as his former business associates Mihir Diwakar and his wife Soumya Das have filed a defamation case against him. According to the reports, the busines couple have filed a case in the Delhi High Court against Dhoni and some social media platforms seeking a permanent injunction and damages for malicious statements and spreading them.

"The defendants be restrained from damaging the reputation of the plaintiffs in relation to the false allegations allegedly made by Dhoni relating to purported illegal gains of Rs 15 crores from him and breach of a 2017 contract," the complaint reads as reported by PTI.

A few weeks ago, MS Dhoni slapped a criminal case against his former business partners alleging that they defrauded him of INR 15 crore. According to Dhoni's legal representative, the couple failed to fulfill their contractual obligations related to establishing cricket academies. The case was filed in a Ranchi court against Mihir Diwakar and Soumya Das, who serve as directors at Aarka Sports, invoking Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.

In 2017, Mr. Diwakar reportedly entered into an agreement with MS Dhoni for the establishment of cricket academies, branded as MS Dhoni Cricket Academy, both within India and internationally. However, as outlined in the complaint, Mr. Diwakar allegedly failed to comply with the stipulated terms of the agreement.

Under the agreement, Aarka Sports was entrusted with the responsibility of paying the franchise fee and sharing profits in accordance with the agreed-upon terms. Regrettably, it is claimed that all specified terms and conditions were breached. The initiation of academy establishments allegedly occurred without Mr. Dhoni's knowledge, and the agreed-upon payments were not fulfilled. Furthermore, the authority letter granted to them was revoked on August 15, 2021, as per Mr. Dhoni's statement.
