Johnson, a former fast bowler, is survived by his wife, son, and daughter, the official added.

Earlier, reports indicate that Johnson took the extreme step due to depression. Upon receiving the information, Kothanur police visited the spot, and his body is being taken to Crescent Hospital.

Born on October 16, 1971, Arasikere (Hassan district), Johnson made his mark with the Karnataka Under-19s, claiming 13 wickets in his first two matches. Despite competition from the likes of Javagal Srinath, Johnson made his First-Class debut against Goa at the age of 21, where he managed to take 2 wickets. In another season, he bowled out Assam for 107, finishing with figures of 8 for 55.

Johnson's best performance came against Kerala in 1995-96, where he took his only ten-wicket haul (6 for 63 and 4 for 89). Strong performances, including 4 for 49 against Bengal and 5 for 91 against Baroda, led to his selection for a match against the touring Australians. Opening the bowling for the Indian Board President's XI, he dismissed Ricky Ponting and Michael Slater.

Following an injury to Srinath, Johnson was called up to make his debut in the one-off Test against Australia at Kotla, three days after the match against the tourists.

Despite his promising start and notable pace, he struggled with consistency and fitness, which limited his opportunities at the international level.

Johnson continued to play domestic cricket for Karnataka, where he had more success and contributed to his team's bowling attack. After retiring from playing, he was involved in coaching and mentoring young cricketers.
